Electrical Commissioning

Electrical commissioning verifies that a building’s power distribution, emergency power and protection systems are safe, correctly set and ready to carry load before energisation and handover. It covers everything from the MV switchgear to the last emergency light.

Power Has to Work the First Time, and Every Time After

A wrong relay setting, an untested ATS or a weak earth connection rarely shows up on a normal day. It shows up during a fault or a mains failure, when a hospital, data centre or operations room can least afford it. Electrical commissioning tests those moments on purpose, under controlled conditions.

How We Commission Electrical Systems

  1. Document review. Single line diagrams, coordination study and as-installed drawings checked against the installation.
  2. Factory acceptance. We witness FAT for switchgear, generators and UPS at the manufacturer’s works.
  3. Installation verification. Cable terminations, earthing, labelling and fire stopping inspected on site.
  4. Every test carried out with calibrated instruments and recorded on signed test sheets.
  5. Energisation and load tests. Coordinated with the utility and the contractor under a permit to work.
  6. Integrated testing. Electrical and mechanical interfaces tested together during mains failure and fire scenarios.
  7. Handover. Completion certificates and O&M documentation for the client.

Standards We Follow

IEC 60364, BS 7671, IEC 60296, IEEE, NETA, BS EN 1838, BS 5839-1, NFPA 72, and Saudi Electricity Company requirements.

Electrical Commissioning FAQ

1. What is electrical commissioning?

It is the independent testing and verification of a building’s electrical systems, including switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS, earthing and protection, to confirm they are safe and work as designed before handover.

A load bank test runs a generator at set steps up to its full rated load using an artificial load. It proves the generator can carry the building’s demand with stable voltage and frequency.

Relays decide which breaker trips during a fault. If settings do not match the coordination study, a small fault can black out a whole building. We check settings and test each relay by secondary injection.

Yes. We test fire alarm, CCTV, access control, PAVA, nurse call, BMS and structured cabling as part of the electrical and integrated testing scope.
