HVAC Sound and and Vibration Testing
Sound and vibration testing measures the noise HVAC systems create in occupied rooms and the vibration of fans, pumps and other rotating equipment. It confirms that rooms meet their design noise criteria (NC levels) and that equipment runs smoothly enough to last.

Quiet Rooms and Long Lasting Equipment
A hotel room that hums, a boardroom with a whistling diffuser or a patient room next to a noisy riser all lead to complaints. Excess vibration, meanwhile, wears out bearings, seals and couplings years early. Measuring both at handover catches problems while they are still under warranty.
Testing Scope
Sound level testing
Background noise measurements · NC level verification in occupied spaces · Room acoustic verification · Equipment noise analysis
Vibration testing
Rotating equipment vibration · Pump vibration · Fan and AHU vibration · Vibration analysis reports
Standards We Follow
NEBB Procedural Standards for Measuring Sound and Vibration, ASHRAE Handbook guidance on noise criteria, and ISO 10816 for machine vibration.
What You Receive
Sound level readings by room against design NC levels · Vibration readings by equipment against allowable limits · Analysis of out of tolerance results with recommendations · Instrument calibration certificates

Sound and Vibration Testing FAQ
Do you have any question?
1. What is an NC level?
NC (Noise Criteria) is a rating that describes background noise in a room across frequencies. Designers set a target NC for each space, for example lower for bedrooms and theatres than for corridors.
2. Why measure vibration on HVAC equipment?
High vibration points to imbalance, misalignment or loose mounting. Left alone, it damages bearings and seals and transmits noise into the building.
3. Is sound and vibration testing part of TAB?
It is often specified alongside TAB, since the same engineers and visits cover airflow and noise at each terminal. We can deliver it as part of TAB or on its own.
